OBERLIN -- Walter R. Anderson, 81, died Monday (April 5, 2004) at Marysville, Kan.
He was born March 8, 1923, at Fort Collins, Colo., to J. Fred and Amy H. Anderson.
He was raised in Meeker, Colo., where he completed his primary education. He then attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
On June 2, 1945, he married Bonnie Cressler in Hoxie, Kan. They lived on a farm north of Studley, Kan. and moved to Oberlin in 1969. He worked for the Norton-Decatur Rural Electric Cooperative for 38 years.
He married Verna Mae (Marvin) Jackson Bryan Dec. 26, 1992.
He was a member of the United Church of Oberlin and the Masonic Lodge in Hill City, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and one brother,William Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Verna Mae Anderson of Oberlin; two sons, Bill and wife, Debra Anderson of Topeka, Kan., and Fred Anderson of Oberlin; one daughter, Melanie Anderson of Oberlin; three step-daughters, Christie Wesch, Hiwatha, Kan., Linda Mills and husband Cliff of Palmer Lake, Colo., and Kathy Haug and husband, Ron of Salida, Colo.; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
Services are Friday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Nolan Pierce officiating. Burial will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., Thursday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or to the United Church of Oberlin.
