Julia Sis (Austin) Vandiver

LINCOLN -- Julia Sis (Austin) Vandiver, 93, died Thursday (April 1, 2004) at Monarch Hospice Facility in Lincoln.

She was born Jan. 30, 1911, in a sod house in Beardsley, Kan., in Rawlins County, to Frank and Appolonia Sis.

After many moves in her early marriage years, she settled in Lincoln. In 1941 she became a single parent and took on many jobs to support her children, sometimes working as many as three jobs at a time.

On Sept. 1, 1955 she married Ralph Vandiver in Raton, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 16 siblings; and an infant son, Robert in 1933.

Survivors include her husband Ralph of Lincoln; two daughters, Julia and husband Donley Gerbig of Lincoln and Ann and husband Frank Cech of Omaha; one son, David and wife Marianna Austin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and their children.

Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Blessed Sacrament Church, 1704 Lake St., Lincoln.
