OBERLIN -- Alvin J. Jording, 90, died Thursday (April 1, 2004) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
He was born March 21, 1914, to John and Mary (Pageford) Jording in Palmer, Kan. He was raised in Palmer and then the family moved to Traer in 1917. He attended Traer schools.
On Nov. 8, 1935, he married Fern Towery in Norton. He spent most of his life in the Oberlin community. He was employed with Kansas/Nebraska Natural Gas Company.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Larry; son, Duane Jording; daughter-in-law, Janice; brothers, Henry, Arnold and Leonard; and sisters, Bertha Kelley and Joan Fredrickson.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Jording of Oberlin; son, Clayton Jording of Medford, Ore.; daughter, Marjorie and Phillip Law of Lakewood, Colo.; brother, Wilbert Jording of Dayton, Wash.; two brothers-in-law, Bob Kelley of Marquette and Doyle Fredrickson of Wichita; two sisters, Esther Hoffbauer of Toppenish, Wash., and Mildred Cochran of Oberlin; one sister-in-law, Esther Jording of Salina; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Services are Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Don White officiating. Interment will be in Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, 1-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin and Monday after 8 a.m., at the church.
Memorials may be given in his name to the church or Decatur County Summer Recreation Program.
