MCC baseball 0-4 vs. Lamar

Monday, April 5, 2004

The McCook Community College baseball team found it tough to hang with the No. 10-ranked team in the nation in Lamar, Colo., Saturday and Sunday at the Jaycees Sports Complex in McCook.

MCC dropped all four of the games to Lamar. The Indians dropped to 3-30 (1-25 Region 9).

"They are ranked number 10 in the nation and one-through-nine they pound the ball," MCC head coach Jeremy Jorgensen said.

"If you make mistakes they will pounce on you. They have a strong tradition and that's where we want to get to."

Lamar 4, MCC 1

"The first game on Saturday was a very good college baseball game at any level," Jorgensen said.

"We made a couple of mistakes in the third inning. Brent Glantz pitched a terrific game for us."

Lamar 13, MCC 1

"We walked a couple guys early on," Jorgensen said. "Then they scored four

runs early on and then they just hit the ball around."

Lamar 14, MCC 0

"Phil Macke started out well, throwing strikes and had a couple of strikeouts and kept them off balance. Lamar adjusted and started hitting pretty hard and blew it open," said Jorgensen.

Lamar 15, MCC 0

"Greg Clark was pitching a good ball game, but a dropped fly ball at third base gave them three runs to make it 3-0," Jorgensen said.

"We hung in this one a little better, until the seventh inning when they blew it open."

Despite being outscored 46-2 during the weekend, Jorgensen said his team didn't leave empty-handed or pessimistic.

"We got a chance to compete against one of the best teams in the nation and see where we measure," he said. "At times we showed that we can compete with them."

MCC will play against Hastings College JV on Wednesday at Hastings. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.

MCC's next home game will be Friday against Northeastern Community College at 4 p.m.

MCC and Northeastern will play again on Saturday at 11 a.m. Both games will take place at the Jaycees Sports Complex.
