KEARNEY -- Arthur W. "Pug" Hovey, 83, died Wednesday (March 24, 2004) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born April 12, 1920, to Charles and Clara (Kemp) Hovey in Trenton. He grew up in Trenton and graduated from Trenton High School in 1939.
He entered the Army and served during World War II.
He returned to Trenton and began working as a plumber.
On Dec. 7, 1948, he married Doris Taul. In 1954, he was appointed Hitchcock County Sheriff. In 1961, he joined the postal service and was postmaster until his retirement. The couple spent their married life in Trenton.
He was a member of the Stellges-Baker American Legion Post 337 in Trenton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Kirk Hovey in 1962.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Trenton; two sons, Tom Hovey and wife, Marilyn of Trenton and Terry Hovey and wife, Sheri of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Gary Hovey and wife, Angie of Greeley, Colo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the Church of God in Trenton with Johnny Walker officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Trenton Cemetery.
