Harvey Nichols Brown

MITCHELL -- Harvey Nichols Brown, 87, of Mitchell, died Tuesday (March 16, 2004) at the Mitchell Care Center in Mitchell.
He was born April 28, 1916, to Joseph and Gladys Nichols Brown south of Curtis. He graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in 1936.
On April 13, 1940, he married Opal Miller in Oberlin. She preceded him in death May 26, 1987.
On Jan. 30, 1990, he married Roberta Newcomb in North Platte. He owned and operated Brown's Repair Shop for many years in Curtis before retiring. The couple moved from Curtis to North Platte in 2001.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Curtis, the Curtis Fire Department for 27 years and served on the Curtis City Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Opal; daughter, Iris Swailes; infant grandson, Kimo Swailes; and two brothers, Kenneth and Earl.
Survivors include his wife, Robert Brown of Grand Island; daughter, Leta and husband, Gene Naber of Greeley, Colo.; son, Terry and wife, Connie Brown of Gering; step-son, George and wife, Diane Newcomb of Grand Island; four step-daughters, Linda and husband, Jim Naeve of Norfolk, Debra and husband, Bob Walker of Grand Island, Glenda Fantoni of Tauton, Mass., and Patricia and husband, Ivan Gaitan of London, England; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Services are Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Curtis with the Rev. Richard Sykes officiating. Interment will be in the Curtis Cemetery.
The register book is available to sign Sunday, 1-9 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home of Curtis.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church of Curtis.
