OBERLIN -- Fredrick Helmkamp, 84, died Monday (March 8, 2004) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
He was born Dec. 20, 1919, to Ewald and Louise (Wendelin) Helmkamp in Traer. He was raised in the Traer area and attended school at St. John's Lutheran School. He graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1938.
He served in World War II.
On Aug. 24, 1952, he married Leona Naumann in Lexington. He farmed and ranched northwest of Oberlin. In 2000, he moved into Oberlin.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Susanne Helmkamp; and sister, Mildred Bierwagon.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Helmkamp of Oberlin; two daughters, Julie Gardiner and husband, Chris of Pratt, Kan., and Lori Brewer and husband, Joe of Limon, Colo.; one sister, Doris Kreymborg of Littleton, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
Services are Thursday, 2 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Charlotte Strecker-Basler officiating. Interment will be in Oberlin Cemetery in Oberlin.
Visitation is Wednesday 8 a.m.-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Thursday, 8 a.m., until service time at the church.
