No. 1 Cambridge

puts talented

lineup on the floor

North Platte St. Pat's and Cambridge will collide Thursday night in the boys Class C2-11 Sub-District championship game.

The game will take place at 7:45 p.m. in the McCook High School gymnasium.

Cambridge (21-1) came out on top 77-54 during the teams‚ first meeting on Feb. 11.

St. Pat's coach Matt Irish said that his team will be looking to make amends when their season is on the line.

"This will be the second time we‚ve played them. Our kids will be coming out with a lot of energy and hopefully they can come out and give it their best effort," he said.

Despite the 23-point beating the Trojans gave St. Pat's two weeks ago, St. Pat's talent level is not lost on Cambridge sophomore Waid Vontz.

"They are really quick and can run up and down the floor and they have some really good outside shooters," he said.

One of St. Pat's (13-7) stars that Cambridge will be looking to shut down is Craig Smith.

Smith poured in a game-high 17 points in St. Pat's 58-45 outing of Arapahoe in the semifinals on Tuesday.

While St. Pat's features a few good shooters, the entire starting lineup of Class C2 No. 1-ranked Cambridge are potential threats.

Cambridge's lineup consists of Marcus Vontz, Waid Vontz, Matt Depperschmidt, Matt Sexton and Derik Light.

"We're pretty deep and they all are hard to cover," said Cambridge head coach Del Schoenfish.

Guard Waid Vontz led Cambridge with 16 points in their 53-33 thrashing of Southern Valley in the semifinals on Tuesday.

"Cambridge is a good team and we're looking forward to the challenge," said Irish. "We know we are going to have to play at the top of our game."

Schoenfish knows that his Cambridge team will be up for the game.

"We've done a nice job all year long with whatever has been thrown at us," he said.

"We're going to have to beat some good teams to get where we want to go."

For Cambridge there is no question where they want to go and what they want to accomplish.

"Our goal is to win a state championship," said Depperschmidt after a 95-58 win over Republican Valley on Jan. 30.

"We want to win the highest prize that we can."
