ARAPAHOE -- Jack C. Johannsen, 86, died Monday (Feb. 23, 2004) at CA Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.
He was born Sept. 15, 1917, to John and Lillie (Stolle) Johannsen in Pierpont. He attended and graduated from Langford Public Schools in Langford, S.D. After school, he caught and sold wild horses and worked for the CCC in Washington.
Throughout 1941 to 1946, he served in the Army. He was stationed in Europe and Southwest Pacific Theaters during his time in the service.
On Sept. 13, 1943, he married Faye Lillian Remington in Arizona and worked for a mining company in Inspiration, Ariz. After his discharge in 1946, the couple moved to Holbrook. He worked for a highway construction company and Furnas County Roads Department as a heavy equipment operator. In 2000, the couple moved to the Sunshine Village in Arapahoe and then to CA Mues Good Samaritan Center in 2002.
He was a member of the Holbrook VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Faye.
Survivors include two sons, Roger and wife, Mary Johannsen of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Dale Johannsen of North Platte; daughter, Linda and husband, Ken Widick of Grand Junction, Colo.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are Friday, 10:30 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Holbrook with Dale Whitson officiating. Interment will be in Holbrook Cemetery in Holbrook with military rites provided by VFW of Holbrook.
Visitation is Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
