Martha Clare Salisbury

Martha Clare Salisbury passed away Jan. 5, 2004, in Mesa, Ariz., at the age of 93.

Martha was born Sept. 11, 1910 in Plattsburg, Mo., to Charles Edward and Beulah Faye (Lukey) Hubbard.

Martha grew up in Norton and graduated from Norton Community High School. She attended the college in Wichita where she was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Iota Kappa Chapter.

On Sept. 8, 1936, she married Frank M. Salisbury in Norton. The couple moved to McCook in 1944 and then moved to Mesa in 1984.

She was a lifelong member of the St. Alban's Episcopal Church and volunteered her time where needed including St. Anne's Guild. She was an avid bridge player and also loved to read and crochet.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Frank on April 13, 1988; daughters, Carol Elaine and Judith Anne Riggs; her parents; two brothers, Rex and Charlie; and sisters, Dorothy Bright and Nancy McClelland.

Survivors include three remaining children, Janice Archer of Junction City, Kan., Robert and wife, Barbara of Denver, Colo., David and wife, Diana of Avondale, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, Steve Archer and wife, Shannon of Oklahoma, Robbie Archer and wife, Robin of Colorado, Mike Riggs of Arizona, Mark Riggs of California, Carol Spannagel (Riggs) and husband, Malcolm of Idaho, Thomas Riggs and wife, Diane of California, Caroline and Catherine DiSanto of Colorado, Stephie Gustin (Salisbury) and husband, Michael of Arizona, Ryan Salisbury and wife, Jennifer of Arizona, Misty and DeWayne Orrell of Arizona; and 15 great-grandchildren, Tegan, Kelly, Sarris, Stormy, Asia, Ashley, Amanda, Malcolm, Christian, Jordan, Mackenzie, Seth, Clairise, Chase and Dexter.

Services are Saturday, Feb. 21, 1:30 p.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sam Williams officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Alban's Columbarium.
