Total Home Show turnout about 4,200

Attendance at the 14th annual McCook Chamber of Commerce Home and Builders Show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday pleased chamber staff and vendors.

Chamber Director Marie Owen said about 4,200 people attended the 2 1/2-day event.

She said she and vendors were pleased with attendance, although it was down from 2003, most likely because of the funeral of Scott Hoffman (a staff assistant to U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson who drowned Feb. 8 in Barnett Park) Friday afternoon and roughstock rodeos at the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday evenings.

Owen said time and time again she hears from vendors how impressive the McCook show is. Owen said the representative from Southern Living came from a show in Colorado where only 1,500 people attended.

Owen said the Softubs representative said the McCook show was much better than one in Omaha, where people are charged $6 to get in and $6 to park.

Local vendors, such as Barnett Lumber, Tri-State Enterprises and Samway's, were also pleased with the turnout, Owen said.

Marie said she appreciated the volunteers who help with the home show. "We have incredible volunteers," Owen said. "We couldn't do an event like this without lots of manpower."
