IMPERIAL -- Alvina Elizabeth Buffington, 92, of Wauneta, died Friday (Feb. 6, 2004) at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.
She was born Jan. 10, 1912, to William and Mary Elizabeth (Grose) McBride. She spent her childhood on her parents homestead south of Wauneta in the south divide. She graduated from Wauneta High School. She was a teacher her whole life. She also taught Sunday school and Bible classes.
On Dec. 12, 1935, she married William Thomas Buffington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; youngest son, Keith Wayne; her parents; and nine siblings, Lula Martin, Charles McBride, William McBride, Beulah Heye, John McBride, George McBride, Viola Gardner, Lillian McBride and Vearl McBride.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Hewitt and husband, Donald of Holyoke, Colo.; one son, Kent Buffington and wife, Sharon of Wauneta; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Buffington of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Lucille McBride of Wauneta, Betty Eaton of Tulsa, Okla.; brother-in-law, Kenneth Buffington of Fort Collins, Colo.; sister-in-law, Helen Dixson of McCook; 14 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services are Tuesday, 10 a.m. (MST), at Christian Faith Outreach Church of Imperial with the Rev. Barry Emerson, a grandson, and the Rev. Glen Kline officiating. Interment is in Riverside Cemetery of Wauneta.
A memorial has been established in her name to the Mission of Belize, Missionary of Belief in care of Dirk Buffington.
