Doris "Dodie" (Helt) Jeffres Bennett died Feb. 4, 2004, in Norton, Kan.
She was born Aug. 29, 1936, in Lebanon to Ted and Wyna (Gay) Helt. She grew up and graduated in Lebanon. She then moved to Ogallala where she worked and met her first husband, Don Jeffres. Later the couple moved to California where Don was stationed in the Navy. After the Navy, they moved back to Nebraska with the majority of her life spent in and around Culbertson and McCook. She spent the last 14 years in Norton. She worked at TRW in Ogallala, Dayco in McCook and Wesco in Norton.
Dodie loved working in the yard and gardening, collecting porcelain dolls and e-mailing friends and family.
Her father; mother; step-father, Robert Hosea; and brother-in-law, Richard Carter preceded in death.
Survivors include two sons, David Jeffres and wife, Kathy of Upland and Dan and Alice Jeffres of Lawson, Mo.; two grandchildren, Adam Jeffres of San Francisco, Calif., Valerie Jeffres of Middletown, R.I.; two sisters, Peggy and husband, Hop Lockhart and Twila Carter, both of Norton; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are Saturday, 11 a.m., at Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon with Gene Carter officiating.
