Incumbents file for office

Thursday, February 5, 2004

Red Willow County Clerk Pauletta Gerver said Wednesday three officials in McCook and Red Willow County have filed for re-election.

Incumbents have until Feb. 17 to file for office, while others have until March 1.

Gerver said there hasn't been much activity in the clerk's office by incumbents or prospective candidates for the primary election May 11.

Incumbents who have filed include Steve Downer of rural Bartley, who is seeking a second four-year term as county commissioner, and Michael Gonzales of McCook, who has filed for another four-year term on McCook's board of education.

Duane Teter, of rural Bartley, has filed for a second term on the now-merged Republican Valley/Twin Valley school district board of education.

Gerver said county office holders coming up for re-election must file in their county clerk's office before 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17. State office holders seeking reelection have the same deadline, and must file in the Secretary of State's office.

A non-incumbent has until 5 p.m., Monday, March 1, to file with the county clerk's or Secretary of State's office.

Candidates filing for public power districts, educational service units and village boards of trustees have until July 1 to file for office, and will not be elected until the general election on Nov. 2.
