Carl Alvin Adams died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Community Hospital of McCook. He went home to the Lord after a 9-month battle with lung and brain cancer. He was 64 years old.
Carl was born March 19, 1939, at Jamestown, Kan. to Thomas Lee Glenn and Pauline (Christie) Adams. He graduated from Kirwin High School, at Kerwin, Kan., in 1958.
He married Patricia Kay Brown. To this union three children were born, Michael, Brenda and Tammy. Patricia preceded him in death July 27, 1985.
Carl entered the U.S. Marines Feb. 25, 1960, and served during the Vietnam War. He reenlisted after his term was over and continued to serve until he was honorably discharged on Feb. 14, 1969. After his discharge, he made his home in McCook where he was employed by Klein's Motor and Electric. He retired in 2003, after 33 years of dedicated service.
On April 22, 1989, he married Sherrel L. Gilbert in McCook and Jeffery became a part of their family in June of 1991.
He was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, McCook Elks and Eagles.
Preceding him in death were his parents Thomas and Pauline Adams; his step-mother, Irene Adams in 1988; his wife, Patricia in 1985; and daughter, Tammy Winters in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Sherrel Adams of McCook; daughter, Brenda and husband, Michael Allen of McCook; sons, Michael Adams and wife, Tracie of Ogallala and Jeffrey Adams of McCook; son-in-law, Scott Winters and wife Kris of Beatrice; one step-son, Steve Alexander of Hazelton, Kan.; a brother, Tom Adams, and wife, Bette of Leominister, Mass.; two step-brothers, Rob Stegmaier and wife, Karen of Delphos, Kan., and Arnold Stegmaier and wife, Elaine of Agra, Kan.; a sister, Marie and husband, Alan Crist of Racine, Wis.; step-sister, Anita and husband, Earl Cypher of Nevis, Minn.; father and mother-in-law, Denzel & Vesta Gilbert of McCook; two sister-in-laws, Gwen Solko and husband, Ken of McCook and Sharon Frick and husband LaVerne of Herndon, Kan.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are being accepted in his name.
Funeral services are Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, 10 a.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sam Williams officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home is Wednesday and Thursday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m.- 7 p.m.
