A pair of McCook City and Volunteer firefighters prepare to do battle with a fire in a mobile home Monday afternoon in the Lazy L Trailer Court in McCook. No one was injured, but damage was estimated at approximately $23,000 to the home and contents.

McCook City and Volunteer Firefighters were able to keep a fire from spreading to other structures Monday afternoon at a mobile home fire in McCook.

"Even though the fire was brought under control quickly, it had been burning for some time before it was noticed by neighbors," McCook Fire Chief Marc Harpham said.

A neighbor reportedly smelled smoke and then noticed smoke coming from the front of a mobile home and a fire in the rear of the structure at Lazy L Trailer Court, Lot 9. The 911 call came in at 3:02 p.m., firefighters were on the scene at three minutes later and the fire was under control within 10 minutes, Harpham said.

"The fire had already ventilated through the exterior wall and roof in the rear of the trailer before it was noticed," he said. "The heat and smoke damage was severe throughout the structure."

The occupant, Cherri Jumps, was not at home at the time of the fire. The owner of the building is Shane Wilson of Littleton, Colo.

Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately two hours to extinguish hot spots and perform salvage and overhaul operations.

Initial damage estimates were approximately $8,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents.
