Robert Henry Bybee, 88, of Curtis, died Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2004) at Community Hospital of McCook.
He was born Dec. 21, 1915, to Issac M. and Nellie A. (Hume) Bybee in Bridgeport. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1935. He went to work on the railroad Bridge Gang. Then he was a brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad for 43 years, until his retirement in 1978.
On April 18, 1937, he married Ruth M. Rhine in Oberlin. The couple made their home in Curtis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth on May 26, 2001; two brothers, George and Everett; two sisters, Thelma and Cornelia; three brothers-in-law, Ellis Boyd, Pat Duling and Art Mcory; and one sister-in-law, Marge Bybee.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra and husband, Russell Swearingen of Lincoln and Carolyn and husband, Hazen Cole of Curtis; one son, Rodger and wife, Lori Bybee of Curtis; three sisters, Kathryn Goff of Forest Grove, Ore., Louise and husband, Irvin Boyd of Hillsboro, Ore., and Helen Mcory of Aloha, Ore.; two brothers, Warren and wife, Billie Bybee of Hillsboro, Ore., and Mason Bybee of Farmington, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Hazel Bybee of Morongo Valley, Calif.; brother-in-law, Bill Duling of Hillsboro, Ore.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services are Monday, 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Curtis with the Rev. Rick Sykes officiating. Interment is in the Curtis Cemetery in Curtis.
The book can be signed Saturday, 9 a.m., to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1-5 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.
Memorials may be given in his name to Curtis Sr. Center or the United Methodist Church in Curtis.
