She was born Jan. 30, 1911, in Wauneta to Charles Robert and Flossie Elisabeth (Earnhardt) Kanost. She grew up in Wauneta and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1929. She graduated from Kearney State Teachers College in 1931. She taught school in Wauneta and at East Ward School in McCook.
On Sept. 9, 1937, she married Kenneth L. McGooden in Kansas City, Mo. The couple made their home in Wauneta until moving to McCook in 1942.
She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years, the United Methodist Women, the McCook YMCA, PEO Chapter FA and Eureka Chapter 86 Order of Eastern Star in McCook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on Sept. 14, 1996; her parents; one brother, William W. Kanost; and one sister, Fern Zelma Kanost.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Kay Hedges of McCook; one son, Kip L. McGooden and wife, Judy of Santa Cruz, Calif.; one sister, Neva C. Kanost of Arapahoe; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services were Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook followed by a service of remembrance at the family home, 1601 Norris Avenue, with the Rev. Jeff Thurman officiating.
