TULSA, Okla. -- Della Maria Shepherd, 88, died Wednesday (Jan. 21, 2004) at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.
She was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Frontier County, to Nathan and Ola (Knepp) Appleyard. She grew up in Frontier County and graduated from Chase County High School of Imperial in 1935. She taught school for two years.
On Sept. 4, 1937, she married Richard J. Shepherd. The couple resided on a farm north of McCook until 1947, when they moved into town. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. LaVerne Blank for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard on July 2, 2000; one son, Rodney James Shepherd on Feb. 16, 1997; her parents; and one brother, Oliver Appleyard.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Shepherd and wife, Majel of Skiatook, Okla.; two daughters, Dixie Buffington and husband, Roger of Farmington, N.M., and Christine Broeking of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Bertha McGee of Denver; and 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services are Monday, 11 a.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
