PAOLI, Ind. -- Betty Jean (Esch) Newton, 77, of Eckerty, Ind., died Dec. 29, 2003, at Paoli Health and Living Center in Paoli, Ind.
She was born May 30, 1926, to Edward and Marie (Kisker) Esch in McCook. She grew up in the Ash Creek Community and graduated from Red Willow High School in 1944.
On Oct. 17, 1946, she married Herbert Newton at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple farmed until they moved to Eckerty, Ind., in 1970. She worked for more than 20 years in home health care and was a church organist and teacher.
She was preceded in death by one son, Lyle Douglas Newton in 1965; her parents; one brother; and six sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Newton of Eckerty; one son, Steven Newton of Hays, Kan.; two daughters, Diane Butler and husband, Terry of Omaha and Regina Newton of Bloomington, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are Saturday, 11:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ash Creek, southeast of McCook. Interment is before services, 10 a.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Memorials may be given in her name and left at Herrmann Funeral Home.
