No. 5 Herndon moves to 10-0

HERNDON -- The Herndon Beavers defeated a solid Jennings Coyotes team Tuesday night to improve to 10-0.

Jennings fell to 9-4.

Hemdon, ranked fifth in Kansas Class 1A according to the Salina Journal, fought back and forth all night with numerous lead changes and ties.

The Beavers were led with a balanced scoring attack led by Jeff Riener with 15 points, Abe Marintzer scored 14 points, Lance Basgall dropped in 12 and Curtis Brown 11.

Brett and Daron Chambers combined for 14 points.

"Dan Riener's defensive pressure was also very important in the Beavers' victory," said Herndon coach Ryan Becker. "Also, Ben Grafel and Rodney Rippe both played some key minutes in the first half that was crucial in the victory."

Adam Wahlmeier led the Coyotes with 24 points, including four 3-pointers. Grant Bailey added 18 points and Adam Miler 8.

Herndon plays Logan on Friday night to start the conference season. Herndon hosts Weskan (stated ranked) next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

"I would also personally like to thank everyone who made it to the game last night to support the team," Becker said. "Your support was fantastic and we all appreciate it."
