Luciano Romano Shaffer

Luciano Romano Shaffer, 80, of McCook, born Nov. 18, 1923, in Lockport, Ill., passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at McCook Community Hospital.

Survivors include his daughter, Antoinette and husband, Raymond Furbee of McCook; two sisters, Margarete Tadey of Joliet, Ill., and Georgine and husband, Steve Platko of Plainfield, Ill.; and one granddaughter, Amanda Shaffer of Phoenix, Ariz.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife, Sally Ann (Kluska) Shaffer, in 2001.

Luciano "Lou" Shaffer was a proud survivor of WWII. He had survived the sinking of his carrier U.S.S. Princeton. He also had abundant joy being in the Knights of Columbus in which he is 4th Degree Past Grand Knight and very proud of his other organizations in which he was deeply involved.

The rosary was Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Carpenter Breland Chapel at 7 p.m. Mass of Resurrection was Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating.

He will be joining his wife with a interment Mass Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Hillcrest, Ill. Burial will be at a later time in Joliet, Ill. He will be laid to rest next to his loving wife at St. Mary's Nativity Cemetery, amongst his parents, George and Antonia Shaffer and his grandparents, Anton and Antonia Buzan.

Memorials may be given to donors choice.
