GARDEN CITY, Kan. -- Joan M. (Stolpe) Easterday, 79, of Atwood, died Thursday (Jan. 15, 2004) at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kan.
She was born June 23, 1924, in Topeka, Kan., to Paul Victor and Louise (Benfer) Stolpe. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University for three years.
On July 29, 1945, she married Harold "Doc" Easterday in Topeka. She first worked as a correspondent for the Topeka-Capital Journal. She later worked as a certified nurse's aide and a certified medical aide assistant for Atwood Good Samaritan Center. In 1952, she moved to Atwood.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the United Methodist Church and PEO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Natalie Miller; and sister, Pauline Roepe.
Survivors include her husband, Harold G. "Doc" Easterday; son, Kirk G. Easterday and wife, Sue of Atwood; four daughters, Katherine Jane Wright of Lakeland, Fla., Carol Lee Robb of Entiat, Wash., Margaret Ann Kastens and husband, Leland of Ludell and Bonnie Lynne Wagner and husband, Eric of Independence, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday, 2 p.m., at United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Terry McGuire officiating. A private inurnment will be at Atwood Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be given in her name to the United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the PEO Scholarship Fund.
