Dundy County girls win battle of unbeatens vs. Wauneta-Palisade

BENKELMAN -- The Dundy County High School girls basketball team, ranked seventh in Nebraska Class D-1, improved to 10-0 with a 48-35 victory over Wauneta-Palisade Tuesday night at Benkelman.

The Tigers handed the Broncos their first loss of the season in 10 games.

The Tigers outscored the Broncos 15-7 in the final quarter and 29-12 in the second half. Wauneta-Palisade led at halftime 23-19.

Vanessa Shill and Alison Glidden led the Tigers with 11 points each. Amber Morris added 10.

Stephanie Padilla led the Broncos with 9 points. Ashley Kitt added 8 and Janae Harris 6.

LOOMIS -- The Arapahoe boys basketball team entered Tuesday night's game at Loomis with a 9-0 record, but were routed 63-27 by the Wolves.

Arapahoe, ranked second and third in various Class C-2 polls, committed 32 turnovers.

Loomis, ranked fourth in Class D-2, improved to 9-1. The Wolves poured it on with a 21-4 fourth quarter.

Drew Billeter led the Wolves with 12 points. Tyler Sroufe added 11, Jeff Anderson 9, Matt Schukar 8 and Mark Schukar 7. Sroufe pulled down 8 rebounds.

Blake Maaske paced the Warriors with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Justin Spaulding added 6 points and 6 rebounds.

INDIANOLA -- The Atwood girls basketball team jumped out to a 29-14 lead over Republican Valley and went on to take the game 54-41 Tuesday night.

Atwood's Emily Walters had a game-high 14 points while teammate Ariel Dunker hit 12 points in the win.

The Mustangs' top scorer was Caitlin Schaffert with 13 points, followed by 12 from Savannah Noyes.

Noyes led the team with 8 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Lindsey Esch and Jaime Coolidge had 5 and 4 assists.

"Atwood totally took it to us the first 2 1/2 quarters. We didn't show up," said Republican Valley coach Dennis Troester. "We did a good job in coming back and cutting the lead to 7 points in the fourth quarter."

Republican Valley is 7-4 and will travel to Bertrand on Friday.

INDIANOLA -- Four Republican Valley boys scored in double figures as the Mustangs ripped Atwood 77-53 Tuesday night at the RVHS gymnasium.

Jesse Randolph and Mason Nelms each scored 18 points. Travis Reitz added 17 and Keith Stritt 10.

Ben Warta led the Buffaloes with 13 points. Curtis Snodgrass added 9, Mark Brown 7 and Adam Holste 6.

The Mustangs outscored the Buffaloes 16-8 in the first quarter and 26-13 in the second period.
