Charlotte Hettich, 84, of TidePointe, Hilton Hill Island, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center in South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Ruth Quick.
She was born Nov. 7, 1919, in Indianola.
She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She also attended Pratt Institute in New York City.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head, the Hilton Head PEO Group, Chapter DK of PEO in Lincoln and Moss Creek Golf Club.
In Darien, Conn., Mrs. Hettich authored a PTA booklet on team teaching when it was a relatively new concept. When living in Media, Penn., she was a member of the League of Women Votes and was instrumental in getting the three-township school district to include in a new junior high school and swimming pool open to the public, making it the only non-private pool within the large school district. She was also president of the student exchange program. In Winchester, Va., she organized a reciprocal student exchange with Winchester, England and was active in the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Museum, Meals on Wheels and the hospital guild.
Surviving are her husband, B.V. Hettich; a daughter, Kay Hettich of Redding, Calif.; her son, Jan Cornelius Hettich of Chicago, Ill.; nieces, Robert Siebert of Scottsbluff and Jane Browning of Severna Park, Md.
A memorial service is Saturday, Jan. 10, 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head Island with the Rev. M. Catherine Northup officiating.
