KEARNEY -- Tena K. Lieske, 87, of Hayes Center, died Saturday (Jan. 3, 2004) at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born Jan. 1, 1917, to Reiner H. and Grace M. (Tjaden) Ackerman near Macon. She lived near Macon, Ragan and Upland for most of her early years. She graduated from Upland High School in 1935.
On Feb. 20, 1936, she married Gustave H.R. Lieske at the Lutheran church in Upland. The couple farmed in the Macon area from 1936-1946 when they moved to Kearney. They farmed southeast of Kearney until 1972 and then moved to Hayes Center where they farmed until her husband died in 1993. She continued to live on the farm until 2003, when she moved to St. John's Center in Kearney.
She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League at Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney, St. John Lutheran Church in Culbertson, the Welcome In Club of Hayes Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gustave on Sept. 27, 1993; one son, Larry; and her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Gustave R. of Lincoln and Dallas E. of Hayes Center; two granddaughters, two grandsons and three great-grandsons.
Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Bryan L. Hopfensperger officiating. Graveside services are at 3 p.m., at the Upland Cemetery in Upland with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating.
Visitation is Tuesday, 4-8:30 p.m., at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church in Culbertson. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Tuesday, 4-6 p.m.
Memorials can be given in her name to Zion Lutheran School in Kearney, Peace Lutheran Radio broadcast in McCook, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
