IMPERIAL -- Laura Adilene "Mac" Garber, 94, died Friday (Jan. 2, 2004) at Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial.
She was born April 9, 1909, in Logan County, near the small community Laura, to Harry and Hazel (Metzer) McKibbin. She graduated from Culbertson High School in 1927.
On July 29, 1928, she married Clifford R. McNeil. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1937. She entered nurses training on Omaha Methodist Hospital. She graduated Sept. 27, 1941. She started working as a nurse with Dr. Fay Smith. She later became director of nurses. She retired in 1981.
In May of 1945, she married Harry Garber.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Imperial. She was a board member of the Imperial Manor for twenty years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Clifford; her second husband, Harry; one sister, Vonda Payne; and brother, Lyndell McKibbin.
Survivors include her son, Clifford McNeil and wife, Joan of Riverside, Calif.; her daughter, Marilyn Anderson and husband, Charles of Imperial; two sisters, Mona Shoop of Portland, Ore., and Leona Johnston of Sunnyvale, Calif.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were today, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church of Imperial with the Rev. Murray Schmechel officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in her name to the Imperial Manor Nursing Home.
