OBERLIN -- Bertha Martina Matchett, 69, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 2003) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
She was born Aug. 30, 1934, to Emmett and Cleo (Montgomery) Booker in Decatur County. She was raised in the Atwood and Oberlin areas. She attended Oberlin schools and graduated from Decatur County High School in 1953.
On Oct. 4, 1952, she married William Marvin Matchett. The couple made their home in Phoenix, Ariz., and in Oberlin. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Anton Janousek; and infant son, Anton Matchett.
Survivors include her husband, William "Bill" Matchette of Oberlin; three sons, Jess Matchett of Mexico, Marvin Matchett and wife, Millie of Norcatur, Bill Matchett Jr., and wife, Jennifer of Salt Lake City, Utah; one step-son, Gene Matchett of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Deborah Reed and husband, Chuck of Fairfield, Utah and Jamie Ellis of Sunray, Texas; step-daughter, Nora Ames of Tucson, Ariz.; foster daughter. Cheri Vanhorn and husband, Bill of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Wanda Dickinson and husband, James of Oberlin; step-sister, Ellen Kennedy of McCook; and 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are Saturday, 11 a.m., at Oberlin Cemetery with Brother Bobby Cornelius officiating. Interment is in Oberlin Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Bertha M. Matchett Memorial Fund.
