Imperial man hospitalized after collision with truck

An Imperial man was hospitalized Saturday following a two vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 34 1.5 miles west of Trenton.

Zebulen M. Smith, 24, of Imperial was transported to Community Hospital of McCook by the Trenton ambulace with possible head injuries after colliding with a semi tractor trailer driven by 37-year-old Kenneth Alderman of Columbus at about 9:40 p.m.

Smith was reported in stable condition today.

According to a news release from the Hitchcock County Sheriff's Department, Smith was traveilling in the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 34 when the vehicle he was driving collided with the semi.

The Smith vehicle was a total loss.

The semi sustained around $35,000 in damages. Anderson was treated for a minor head injury at the scene, but refused to be transported to the hospital.

As a result of the accident, a section of the highway was closed and all traffic was rerouted during the investigation.

The Trenton Fie Department provide traffic control for the accident and emergency lighting for the Sheriff's office.

The Dundy County Sheriff's Department and Benkelman Volunteer Fire Department provided the use of it's thermal imaging equipment during the accident investigation.
