Twin Valley Rebel girls rip Maywood

MAYWOOD -- Despite a double-double by Maywood's Crystal Zwickl, Maywood fell to Twin Valley, 68-43, in girls basketball.

Three Lady Rebels each scored a dozen points in the Tuesday night win. Amanda Weaver scored all of her 12 points in the second half, while 10 of Kim Starr's 12 came in the frist half. Kayla McConville spead her's throughout the game, including one three-pointer.

Zwickl had 14 points along with 11 rebounds, seven of those defensivey. She also had three assists. Alyssa Hezen also reached double digits with 18 points. She pulled down four rebounds.

The Lady Tigers shot 20 of 27 from the free throw line.

"From the line we were great and kept us in the first half," said Maywood coach Kimberly Stengel. "Twin Valley shot really well tonight."

Maywood travels to Eustis on Friday to take on Eustis-Farnam. Twin Valley is off until the Maywood Tournament from Dec. 30-Jan. 2.

Cheylin girls 52, Wheatland 40

CHEYLIN -- With a 26 point effort from Sara Moore, Cheylin defeated Grainfield-Wheatland 52-40 in girls basketball action.

Sara Moore led the Cheylin offense with 26 points, while Amanda Banister provided 12 points.

Hayley Young grabbed 10 rebounds in addition to her four points.

Jennings boys 64, Golden Plains 58

REXFORD, Kan. -- Jennings' Adam Miller poured in 30 points to lead the Coyotes past Golden Plains 64-58 Tuesday night at Rexford.

Grant Bailey added 16 points. Adam Wahlmeier scored 12 points, including 6-of-6 free throws and two 3-pointers. Brett McKenna chipped in with 6.

Jesse Miller led Golden Plains with 21 points. Landon Truetken added 14 and Dusty Spresser 10.

Golden Plains won the JV game 65-50.

Kyle Kinser led Jennings with 14 points. Seth Ritter and Brian Miller each scored 12.

Oberlin boys claim title at Brewster

BREWSTER, Kan. -- Oberlin improved to 3-1 and claimed the championship at the Brewster tourney for the third straight year.

The Devils defeated previously-undefeated Brewster 64-45 in the final game Saturday night.

Senior Egan Grafel had a triple-double, finishing with 31 points and 19 rebounds. He also had seven blocked shots, two assists and two steals.

Matt Mondero reached 19 points and grabbed eight from the boards along with five assists.

Chase McKittrick also reached double digits with 10 points.

One Brewster player reached double figures.

The Red Devils outrebounded Brewster, 48 to 21. Behind by a field goal at halftime, Oberlin outscored Brewster 34 to 13 in the second half.

"We were in some foul trouble the first half but our solid minutes off the bench kept us in the game," said Oberlin coach Dick Ahlberg. "Solid minutes off the bench kept us in the game."

Oberlin advanced to the finals at the Brewster tourney with a 68-42 win over Golden Plains. Grafel had a tourney-high 40 points, along with 14 rebounds. He also had four blocked shots. Lance Fortin followed with 13 points and Matt Mondero provided 10 points, as well as eight rebounds.

Oberlin once again outrebounded its opponent, 49 to 25.

"A big rebounding edge carried us," said Oberlin coach Dick Ahlberg. "Our offensive execution was not very good."

Golden Plains girls 57, Atwood 45

The Golden Plains girls basketball team defeated Atwood, 57-45, Saturday at the Brewster tourney.

The Lady Buffaloes leading scorer was Rachael Woody with 17 points, including one from beyond the arc. She also was 8 of 6 from the charity stripe.

Three Golden Plains players reached double-digits.

Leading by 4 at halftime, Oberlin defeated Atwood, 45-37, on Friday night at the Brewster tournament.

Along with 3 of 5 shooting from the freethrow line, Oberlin's Jamie Elwood had two field-goals and one from beyond the arc for 10 points.

Atwood's top scorer was Emily Wolters with 15 points.

Jennings boys capture Palco tourney

PALCO, Kan. -- The Jennings boys basketball team were named tournament champs at the Palco, Kan., tournament over the weekend.

Jennings defeated host-Palco in the finals, 56-51, led by 18 points from Adam Miller. He was also the leading rebounder with eight. Teammate Grant Bailey had 13 points and four steals, while Adam Wahlmeier notched 11 including two 3-pointers.

Palco's Bryce Trumpp finished with 18 points.

Jennings advanced to the finals with a 73-33 defeat of Eastern Heights.

Four Coyotes reached double figures led by 16 from Miller. Others included 14 from Bailey, 11 from Marcus McKenna and 10 from Nick Wahlmeier.
