Jim was a graduate of Indianola High School and the Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, Ill.
In January of 1953, he joined the US Army Corp of Engineers.
In July of that year he was united in marriage to LaVera Kisling at Fort Belvoir, Va. They were blessed with three daughters, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Following his honorable discharge from the Army as Sgt. 1st Class, Jim took up farming and ranching north of Indianola. In 1978, he moved his family to McCook when he purchased Gateway Realty where he was a broker/auctioneer/appraiser. He was successful in fighting cancer and continued working until he had a disabling stroke in 2000. His family was most important to him and with their help he was able to visit the ranch and his Black Angus cattle until the end.
