OBERLIN -- Phyllis J. Smith, 74, died Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.

She was born Nov. 28, 1929, to E. George and Emma A. (Luedtke) Siegfried on a farm west of Traer. She was raised in Traer and graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin.

On Aug. 14, 1946, she married Galen D. Smith in Norton. She lived in Oberlin until 1953, then lived in Manhattan, Kan. She divorced in 1973 and moved to Phillipsburg, Kan. She retired in March 2002 and moved to McCook. Then she moved to Oberlin. She was a realtor.

She was a member of the Phillipsburg Area Industries, Inc., the Kansas and Nebraska Realtors, Phillipsburg Chamber of Commerce and Xi Gamma Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Carol Lou Siegfried; one brother, Larry Siegfried; and sister-in-law, Mary Siegfried.

Survivors include her fiancee, Howard Sumner of Norcatur, Kan.; one son, Craig Smith and wife, Vicki of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters, Kim Nichols and husband, Dale of Marysville, Calif., and Gwendolyn Graham and husband, Eric of Chesterton, Ind.; two brothers, Gene Siegfried and wife, Ada of St. Francis and Delbert Siegfried of Arapahoe; sister, Eloise Holiday and husband, Charley of St. Francis; and sister-in-law, Ethyl Siegfried of McCook; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are Saturday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Joel Hiesterman officiating. Interment is in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Visitation is Friday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m., until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
