HAYS, Kan. -- Harold J. Schiltz, 86, of Selden, died Saturday (Dec. 6, 2003) at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.
He was born Sept. 19, 1917, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Schlageck) Schiltz in Angelus, Kan. He was raised in the Angelus-Menlo area and attended schools in Angelus. He served during World War II in the Army.
On Jan. 7, 1947, he married Edna Becker in Logan, Kan. The couple made their home in Selden. He was a custom harvester, farmer, cattleman and worked for the railroad for a time.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden and the Selden American Legion Post No. 321.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Edna of Selden; three sons, Jerry and wife, Paula Schiltz of Selden, Don and wife, Teresa Schiltz of Liberal, Kan., and Rob and Carla Schiltz of St. Francis; four daughters, Barbara and husband, Joe Corder of Colorado Springs, Colo., Evelyn and husband, William Dohm of Tulsa, Okla., Elaine and husband, Nick Koerperich of Selden and Dee Ann and husband, Dan Koster of Hays; four sisters, Loretta and husband, Ed Hayden of Goodland, Kan., Mary Ann and husband, Gilbert Seeberger of Hanover, Kan., Florine and husband, Harry Pritchard of Denver, Colo., and Catherine and husband, Varlan Neal of Oberlin; and 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, with the Revs. George Kochuvelikkankan and Stan Chapin. Interment will be at Selden Cemetery.
Visitation is today, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., and Tuesday, 8-10 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden.
Vigil services are Monday, 8 p.m., at the funeral home in Selden.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Selden EMS.
