She was born Dec. 24, 1921, at Aurora, the daughter of the late Christian and Elizabeth (Fritz) Schaffert. She moved with her family to the Culbertson area in 1932 and graduated from Culbertson high School in 1939. Following graduation she was employed by Bill Wagner and Myatt Volentine families.
On June 15, 1941, Lucille married Carl H. "Shorty" Gohl Jr., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson. She spent her life as a homemaker, helping her husband on the farm and various club and church activities. She thoroughly enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved cooking and baking for family and friends. They moved to Culbertson in 1979. Following an auto accident in 1983, she spent her time caring for her husband. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl on June 9, 1990; an infant son, Ronald Carl Gohl on Jan. 14, 1945; her parents; and one brother, Eugene Schaffert.
Lucille is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Miller and husband, Roland of Culbertson, Patti Gebhard and husband, Al of Denver, Colo., and Nancy Rippen and husband, Ted of Culbertson; one son, Jim Gohl of Culbertson; seven grandchildren, Kim Schilling and husband, Jay, John Miller and wife, Karen, Stephanie Linke and husband, Ryan, Kelly Gohl and husband, Jeff Ockinga, Courtney Holub and husband, Jarod, Shane Rippen and wife, Kelly, Jill Eberspacher and husband, Jon; five great-grandsons, Nic Schilling, Ben Schilling, Jake Miller and Will Miller; sister-in-law, Melva Gohl of Culbertson; daughter-in-law, Vernetta Gohl of McCook; one brother, Gerald Schaffert and wife, Virginia of Culbertson; two sisters, Gwen Riemer of McCook and Joyce Snuttjer and husband, Rollie of Lincoln; nieces, nephews and friends.
