He was born July 12, 1922, to Lawrence H. and Clara (Witt) Carey in McCook. He graduated from Palisade High School in 1940. On Nov. 7, 1943, he entered the Navy as a Seabee and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged Jan. 18, 1946.
On Aug. 2, 1942, he married Betty J. Norman in Imperial. The couple made their home in Palisade. He was employed as the hotline foreman for Southwest Public Power. He retired in July of 1986, after 34 years of service.
He was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church, having served as president of the administrative board and other communities. He was also a member of the Palisade Village Board, school board and cemetery board. He was active in the Palisade Fire Department for 27 years and was also a National Certified EMT. He was a licensed pilot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gerry Carey in 1960; and one brother, Darrell Carey.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Carey of Palisade; two daughters, Julia and husband, Steve Halterman of Cozad and Lisa and husband, Raymond Kisinger of Palisade; one son, Brandon Carey and wife, Peggy of Cozad; one sister, Mima "Dot" and husband, Larry Landreth of Springfield, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Donna Carey, also of Springfield; and four grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Palisade United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Laing officiating. Interment is in the Palisade Cemetery with a military committal.
Visitation is Monday, 8 p.m., and Tuesday 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
