KEARNEY -- Joan D. Moore, 74, died Saturday (Nov. 8, 2003) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born April 4, 1929, in McCook to EO and Delsie (Simmons) Dike. She attended school in McCook.

Following her education she was united in marriage to Clayton W. Smith of Oberlin. The family made their home in Oberlin and Norton, Kan., and later settled in Holdrege in the early 50s. While in Holdrege, she worked as a waitress in several cafes and was employed at Becton-Dickinson and enjoyed doing volunteer work at the hospital.

On May 16, 1968, she married Delbert W. Moore in Holdrege. The couple made their home in Holdrege. The couple moved to Alma in 1990.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-son, David Moore; two brothers, Murray and Jerry Dike; and three sisters, Peggy, Verla and Ona.

Survivors include her husband, Delbert of Alma; tow sons, Dan Smith and his wife, Janis of Houston, Texas and Ron Smith and his wife, Pam of Holdrege; one daughter, Jill Anne and husband, Mike Jones of Moscow, Idaho; step-daughter, Denise Greer and husband, Burton of Omaha; step-son, Doug Moore and wife, Patty of Hickman; two sisters, Shirley White and husband, Ray of North Platte and Helen Flowers and husband, Louis of Ozark, Ala.; one brother, Dennis Dike and wife, Gloria of Sacramento, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services are Thursday, 2 p.m., at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege with Dr. Gary Winget officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Visitation is Wednesday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established in her memory.
