Vergie E. Nygren

OBERLIN -- Vergie E. Nygren, 92, died Saturday (Nov. 8, 2003) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

She was born March 27, 1911, to Andrew Gustaf and Anna Caroline (Hemming) Anderson in Decatur County. She was raised on a farm in the Lund community southwest of Oberlin. She attended school at a rural school near her home and attended Decatur Community High School.

On Aug. 22, 1935, she married Arvid E. Nygren at the Lund Covenant Church. She lived in many places while her husband served as a minister. She returned to Oberlin after his death in 1940. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Oberlin Evangelical Covenant Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arvid; two brothers, Wilmer and Ruben Anderson; and two sisters, Edith Anderson and Irene Helberg.

Survivors include four nephews, Milton Anderson of Vliets, Kan., Mick Helberg and wife, Jean of Hamlet, Gorden Helberg and wife, Darlene of Saint Petersburg, Fla., and Keith Nygren and wife, Beth of Heartland, Wis.; and two nieces, Karen Werner and husband, Don of Ferris, Texas and Kris Slhaug and husband, Art of Montana.

Services are Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Oberlin Evangelical Covenant Church with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Interment is in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is today, 11 a.m.-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Tuesday, after 8 a.m., at the church.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Oberlin Evangelical Covenant Church or the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.
