Melvyn R. Chrisman, 88, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) at Community Hospital of McCook.

He was born Feb. 7, 1915, at McCook to James R. and Mary (Kehl) Chrisman. He grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1933.

On June 26, 1937, he married Constance "Connie" Malcolm at McCook. He was employed by the Fox Theater before entering the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.

Following his discharge, he returned to the theater. He also worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church; and a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was a 25-year member and a charter member of the Nebraska Genealogical Society and was a 25-year member of the McCook Elks Lodge No. 1434. He also was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Karl Chrisman; and one sister, Lois Gordon Morris.

Survivors include his wife, Connie of McCook; one daughter, Jilene and husband, Marvin Cohn of Denver, Colo.; one son, Michael and wife, Kerry Chrisman of North Platte; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
