TRENTON -- Elfie M. Johnson, 90, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003) at El Dorado Manor in Trenton.

She was born Jan. 11, 1913, to Alfred and Mabel (Haining) Edwards in Hitchcock County. She grew up in the Stone Church community southwest of Culbertson. She graduated from McCook High School in 1936. She attended McCook Junior College, Kearney State College and the University of Nebraska.

On July 23, 1948, she married Orval Johnson. The couple made their home Trenton, where she taught elementary education for many years.

She was a members of the Retired Teachers Association and the Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval; and one step-daughter, Bernice Stock in 1986.

Survivors include one son, Wayne Johnson and wife, Mary of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; one step-daughter, Darlene Rath of Aurora; one sister, Jo Nowka of Trenton; and two grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services are Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Church of God in Trenton with the Rev. Ken Hazel officiating. Interment is in the Cornell Cemetery in Trenton.
