County accepts seeds for habitat

Tuesday, October 28, 2003

The ditches along country roads in Red Willow County will become more wildlife- friendly after the Red Willow County Commissioners accepted a donation of grass seed from the Plains Sportsmen's Chapter of Pheasants Forever.

Commissioners accepted a donation of about 200 acres worth of warm- and cool-weather grass seed from the conservation organization in order to improve habitat for pheasants and other wildlife.

The board transferred a Dell computer from the extension office inventory to the county board. The computer will be used in the commissioner's room.

In other action, commissioners

*Agreed to remove the payphone located on the first floor of the county courthouse.

*Approved a construction permit to allow Qwest Communications to rebury phone cable that was damaged during a construction project.

*Adopted a resolution to amend the county's Hartford deferred compensation plan.

*Received and recorded checks deposited with the county treasurer

*Approved claims for payroll.
