BEAVER CITY -- Clyde Swartz, 82, died Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) at the Beaver City Manor.
He was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Red Willow County, to Fred and Mary (Hansjosten) Swartz.
He entered the Army July 7, 1942, and served during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged Aug. 30, 1945.
On Feb. 7, 1942, he married Mary Lucille Finch in Oberlin. To this union four sons were born. Clyde was employed by the State of Nebraska Department of Roads until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Swartz; his wife, Mary Lucille Swartz; two sons, Clyde E. and Leonard Swartz; daughter-in-law, Donna Swartz; three brothers, Gilbert, Harold and Arnold Swartz; and three sisters, Sadie, Helen and Mary Swartz.
Survivors include his two sons, Floyd Swartz of Thornton, Colo., and Kevin Swartz and wife, Mary, of Dumas, Texas; daughter-in-law, Sandra Swartz of McCook; one brother, Clarence Swartz and wife, Norma, of Orient, Iowa; one sister, Leona Vontz of McCook; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given in his name.
Services are today, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Lester officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
