BAGHDAD, IRAQ -- Staff Sgt. Christopher Wayne Swisher, 26, of Fort Polk, La., died Thursday (Oct. 9, 2003) in Baghdad, Iraq.

He was born May 5, 1977, to Bruce and Sharon (Kathman) Swisher in Lincoln. He is a 1995 graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School. He was a former employee of King's Drive Inn and Kess Drywall.

He was in the Army Troop E, 2d Squadron, 2d Armored Calvary Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Combined Joint Task Force 7, APO AE 09302.

He was the recipient of a Bronze Star and Purple Heart posthumously.

He was a member of the Lincoln Masonic Lodge No. 19 and the American Legion Post No. 3.

He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Harry and Eva Zelda Swisher, Alvin Cline and Howard Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Kristen Swisher of Lincoln; daughter, Alexandria, also of Lincoln; mother, Sharon Swisher of Lincoln; brother, Terry and wife, Tammy Swisher of Lincoln; sister, Lisa Swisher of Lincoln; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruce and Ilah Anderson of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Bridget Anderson of Lincoln; grandparents, Raymond and Ruth Kathman of Cherokee Village, Ark., Grace Cline of Lincoln and Elinor Anderson of Lincoln; and relatives in the Cambridge area.

Services will be Wednesday, 3 p.m., at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln with the Rev. Michelle Reed officiating. Masonic Rites will be presented by the Lincoln Masonic Lodge No. 19. Interment is in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Fort Riley, Kan., Honor Guard.

Visitation is Tuesday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Wednesday, 9 a.m., until services.
