John Beneda, 93, died Tuesday (Oct. 14, 2003) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
He was born Jan. 27, 1910, to James and Mary (Ruzocka) Beneda in Norcatur. He grew up in Decatur County and graduated from rural school. He began a business of custom harvesting and corn shelling.
On May 1, 1934, he married Sarah Kennedy at Traer, Kan. The couple moved to Red Willow County where they farmed south of McCook and farmed the Senator George Norris estate from 1958 until retiring and moving in to McCook in 1970.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank Beneda and James Beneda; two sisters, Katherine Beneda and Pauline Krizek; and one granddaughter, Penney Wood in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Beneda of McCook; one son, Owen Beneda and wife, Lois Jane of McCook; one daughter, Mary Ann Wood and husband, Larry of McCook; two brothers, Lloyd Beneda of Oberlin and Everett Beneda of LaPine, Ore.; and three sisters-in-law, Mabel Kennedy of Oberlin, Ellen Kennedy of McCook and Mary Siegfried and husband, Delbert of Arapahoe.
Services are Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Charles Hooton officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery in Oberlin.
