BEAVER CITY -- Joseph P. Kellogg, 87, died Saturday (Sept. 27, 2003) at Beaver City Manor in Beaver City.
He was born July 11, 1916, to Oscar and Flora (Batchelor) Kellogg. He grew up in Furnas County. When he was 17 he moved to Idaho.
In 1936, he married Verna Wheeler in Haley, Idaho. In 1954, the couple moved to Nevada, where he worked in the silver and lead mines and farmed. The couple moved to Wendover, Utah in 1959, where he worked for Keeser Chemicals until he retired in 1978. Following retirement, the couple moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they lived until 1983, when they moved to Beaver City. His wife died in 1993. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verna; one son, Merwin in 2001; grandson, Kip in 1981; two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly and husband, Mel Bell of Wells, Nev., Carolyn Laura of Wendover, Utah, and Sheryl and husband, James Beckett of Concord, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Janet Kellogg of Yuma, Ariz.; one sister, Permelia Morgan of Wapato, Wash.; special friend, Vora Thompson of Beaver City; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City with Jim Olsen officiating. Interment will be in Hendley Cemetery in Hendley.
Visitation is today, 1-8 p.m., and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City.
Memorials may be given in his name to Beaver City Manor, the senior center or Good Samaritan Hospice and left at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City.
