Losing a local landmark

There is a patch of ground at West Fifth and M in McCook that is seeing direct sunlight for the first time since the Depression. Thanks to my competent and helpful staff -- as well as an illness and other assignments that left no one else available -- I was able to assign myself to cover the demolition of the old water tower stand pipe on Monday. Besides, it was a beautiful late summer, early fall day, a great one to be outdoors.
