Mattie E. Jones
YORK -- Mattie E. Jones, 86, of York, died Thursday (Sept. 13, 2001) at the Hearthstone in York.
She was born June 3, 1915, near Upton, Wyo., to Bryan and Edith (Casada) Tupper. She was a graduate of Riverton High School and Kearney State College. She taught rural school in McPherson, Franklin, Kearney and Deuel Counties, and at schools in Columbus, Geneva, McCook and Lincoln.
On June 17, 1935, she married Lowell D. Jones of Magnet. Together they served Nebraska Methodist Churches at Ponca, Central City, Fairview, Neligh, Chappell, Columbus, McCook and Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell; and her brother Leo Tupper.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Dye and husband, Leonard Paplauskas of Cheshire, Conn., and Miriam Peterson and husband, Charles of York; one son, Bryan Jones and wife Linda of McCook; two brothers, Clinton Tupper of Mesa, Ariz., and Milton Tupper of Red Cloud; two sisters, Ilene Wulf and Irene Hansen of Red Cloud; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Interment services will be at 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln.
Visitation will be Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Metz Mortuary in York.
Memorials may be given in her name to any public library, The Hearthstone, or to the family.
