Venice M. Owens Butler
TOPEKA, Kan. -- Venice M. Owens Butler, 80, formerly of Palisade, died Monday (Sept. 17, 2001) at a Topeka hospital. She was born Aug. 22, 1921, at Wamego, Kan., to Harry M. and Alta (Snapp) Claywell.
On July 4, 1943, she married Russell L. Owens at Topeka. She was a homemaker until his death on Oct. 24, 1968. She worked as a cook and later as a custodian at the Auburn-Washburn School District in Topeka. In July of 1972, she moved to Casper, Wyo.
On Aug. 27, 1972, she married Henry R.Butler at Casper. They resided in Casper until their retirement. They moved to Palisade in 1984, and resided there until moving to Topeka in 1998 when her health began failing.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palisade. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Russell Owens.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Butler of Topeka; three daughters, Carol Ann Butler of Topeka, Patty Eikenberry of St. Joseph, Mo., and Lynda Trosclair of Warr Acres, Okla.; three step-sons, Ronald Butler of Topeka, Thomas Butler of Casper, and Jim Butler of Homer; one brother, Lyle Claywell of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at the Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
She will lie in state at the funeral home Wednesday, noon to 9 p.m.
