FRONTIER COUNTY -- Monroe Schmidt, 78, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at his home in Frontier County.
He was born Jan. 9, 1923, at Cozad to Enno and Taliena (Hicken) Schmidt. He attended school in Cozad. He farmed near Willow Island.
On July 19, 1942, he married Mae Morris at Lexington. In 1952 he moved to a farm in Frontier County near Harry Strunk Lake. He was a craftsman and mechanic. He was also a private pilot. He played in a dance band from Holdrege to McCook, and along the Hi-Line.
He was a member of the Golden Rod Antique Car Club, and the Antique Airplane Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Vernon.
Survivors include two sons, Myron and wife, Carolyn of McCook, and Carl and wife, Vicki of Lincoln; one daughter, Marie Foley and husband, Mike of McCook; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge with the Rev. Don Thompson officiating. Interment will be at the American Lutheran Cemetery in Gothenburg at 4:30 p.m.
Memorials may be given in his name.
