Mary L. (Henningsen) Decker

ATWOOD -- Mary L. (Henningsen) Decker, 91, died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.

She was born Oct. 4, 1910, in rural Rawlins County, Kan., to Anders "Andy" and Clara (Bohme) Henningsen. She attended the Tully School District 93, graduated from Atwood Community High School and received normal training.

In October 1930, she married Melvin Decker. She was a school teacher in the early years of her life, and a homemaker. She was a lifetime resident of the Rawlins County area. She and her husband lived on a farm southeast of Rawlins County, after which she moved into Atwood in the early 1980s. She was a member of the Atwood United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle. She was a former member of the Lone Star Presbyterian Church, which was located in southeast Rawlins County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin on March 4, 1974; seven brothers, Elmer, Harry, Otto, Frank, Alvin, Bill and Carl; and four sisters, Minnie, Mildred, Anne Hanson and Esther Yaich.

Survivors include two sons, James Decker and wife, Anita, and Shurl Duane Decker and wife, Shirley, all of Greeley, Colo.; one daughter, Janice Decker of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Wayne Stephens officiating. Interment will be at the Lone Star Cemetery in rural Rawlins County.

Visitation is today and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home of Atwood.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Atwood United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
