Alpha O. Morgan
OXFORD -- Alpha O. Morgan, 95, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at his home in Oxford.
He was born Aug. 31, 1906, east of Elwood in Gosper County to Frank Artimus and Lucy Ann (Harris) Morgan. He graduated from Elwood High School in 1922 at the age of 15.
On Aug. 4, 1929, he married Erla Elaine Hadsell at Lincoln. They made their home in Elwood where he owned and operated a garage business, the Chrysler-Plymouth Auto and Case Implement dealerships until 1951. He also owned farmland in Gosper and Harlan Counties. In 1954 they moved to a farm near Orleans. He lived there until 1994 when he moved into Oxford. He was a 71-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and in 2001 he received the Jordan Medal from the Jachin Lodge in Holdrege which represents the oldest member in terms of age and membership.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Erla on Feb. 9, 1978; and one brother, Marion in 1969.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Coffey of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Carol Sharon Brown of El Paso, Texas; one son, Stanley Morgan and wife, Aniela of Tyler, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Oxford with the Rev. Theta Dame officiating. Interment will be at the Orleans Cemetery in Orleans.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., at the Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home in Oxford with family greeting from 4 to 6 p.m.
